Khalid Hammoud is from a family of renowned wooden ship builders with Egyptian ancestry based in Arwad, Syria.

Khalid leads a team of 5-7 shipwrights in the construction of the 21.5m long replica Phoenician/Mediterranean vessel. He began working on the Phoenicia project in November 2007.
